Exciting Updates from YALA: Connecting Young Adults in Our Community!

Share

Launched in August 2024, the Young Adults, Leaders, and Alumni (YALA) is quickly becoming a vibrant hub for young adults in our community. We are thrilled to share some exciting developments that have emerged in just a few short months!

A New Online Home

To keep everyone informed and engaged, we’ve created a dedicated YALA webpage on the USCJ site. This platform will serve as your go-to resource for upcoming events, news, and opportunities to connect with fellow young adults.

Growing Community on WhatsApp and Instagram

Our community is expanding rapidly! Over 200 young adults have joined our new WhatsApp group, allowing members to stay up-to-date on all the latest happenings. Additionally, our YALA Instagram has attracted more than 250 followers, providing a space for connection, inspiration, and engagement.

Partnerships with Synagogues, Individuals, and Organizations

We have already created 11 great AlumNets. These are microgrants that we give to young adults to run their own affinity event to help our community grow and thrive.

We’re excited to report that 19 synagogues and Jewish organizations have reached out about partnership events. Here’s a glimpse of what’s already happened and upcoming events in October:

  • Eytz Chayim, Winnipeg: U2@shul lounge night (September)
  • Tribe12, Philly: Yom Kippur Pre-fast Dinner and Services (October)
  • Tribe12, Philly: Sukkot Dinner (upcoming October)
  • Beth El, NJ: Paint and Sip in the Sukkah (upcoming October)
  • KI, Brookline, MA: Boston Area Young Adult Cider in the Sukkah (upcoming October)

These events highlight the incredible enthusiasm and collaboration within YALA!

YALA Beyond Walls Events

We’re also pleased to announce that 11 Rabbis have expressed interest in hosting YALA Beyond Walls events. Two gatherings have already taken place:

  • Shir Chadash Conservative Congregation, Metairie, LA (September)
  • Sinai Temple, Los Angeles, CA (September)

Looking ahead, Adath Israel Congregation in Mercer County, NJ will host a Havdalah and Hang event this October!

Upcoming YALA Events

The YALA Fall Shabbaton is scheduled for November at the Somerset Doubletree, and it is currently sold out. It promises to be a fantastic opportunity for connection and reflection. You can email Joyce Juda at [email protected] to join the waiting list.

Additionally, we’re thrilled to announce the launch of Shabbat Across YALA, in partnership with One Table, set for December 13th. This initiative will create a special Shabbat experience, enabling participants to host Shabbat dinners across North America.
