Shayla Brewer

Community Director: Lower Mainland British Columbia, Canada

Shayla Brewer (she/her) is the USY Community Director in the Lower Mainland area of British Columbia, Canada. She holds a master’s degree in international development from the Glocal program at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, with a focus on participatory engagement and assets-based community development. She is excited for this opportunity to blend her experiences as a madricha with her education in community development to support a fun, impactful, and thriving Lower Mainland USY. She grew up in Vancouver on the unceded lands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh). She is so grateful for this beautiful place’s blend of sea, mountains, city, and greenery.

Over the past 10 years, Shayla has had the experience of being a madricha and community leader supporting youth ages five to early adulthood within and outside the Jewish community. Outside of work, you can find Shayla trying new cuisines, petting dogs, dancing and enjoying the outdoors.
