Alanna Horowitz

Alanna Horowitz is a genetic counseling and public health student at Boston University, where she focuses on Jewish representation in the field and disability affirming care. She graduated from Johns Hopkins University in 2022 where she studied public health and bioethics.

In high school, she was active in her USY region, NERUSY, was president of her chapter and Spring Convention chair her senior year. At Johns Hopkins, she was vice president of Hillel and gabbi of the Conservative minyan.

Alanna has always been very passionate about education and started teaching in religious schools when she was 13. She taught first grade at Chizuk Amuno in Pikesville, MD, during college, and at Congregation Beth Elohim in Acton, MA, post-college.

In 2023, Alanna attended the USCJ Convening with some of her fellow young adults. Along with making friends she knows she will have for life, she helped to form YALA (Young Adults, Leaders, and Alumni). She is an active member of the YALA committee and is looking forward to seeing the growth that will come from YALA in the coming years.

In 2023, Alanna started working with Yachad of New England, a group for adults with disabilities. She coordinates a young women’s program and staffs the cooking and movie club programs. Working with Yachad is the best part of her day, and forming relationships with members gives her life so much meaning.
