Call for Submissions: Your Photos for our 5780 Calendar

Share

Each year, USCJ creates a calendar of holidays, Torah readings and other significant Jewish dates. Our calendar, which you can receive with a suggested donation of $36, is our biggest fundraiser of the year.

We are happy to announce that we have begun working on next year’s calendar and have chosen to highlight our member kehillot. We would like you, as a member of a USCJ-affiliated synagogue, to send us photos.

This year our theme is rituals. Rituals bind the community together. They provide a sense of identity and are sacred to everyday life. They are both for special events and weekly occurrences and some of the most important practices of Judaism. Each month of the calendar, we will showcase a different ritual object. We plan to choose 15 of the most compelling photographs.

Here are some examples of items you can use in your photographs:

  • Torah
  • Kiddish cups
  • Shofars
  • Menorah
  • Hanukkiah
  • Lulav & Etrog
  • Stained glass windows, tapestries, paintings, or sculptures depicting rituals
  • Havdalah candles and Havdalah sets
  • Shabbat candles/candlesticks
  • Talit
  • Purim paraphernalia
  • Sukkah
  • Ark/Eternal flame
  • Kippot
  • Tablets
  • Haggadah
  • Seder plates
  • Challah covers/matzoh covers
  • Judaica in general
  • Mezuzah
  • Yads
  • Ketubah
  • Hanukkah – dreidels

Our calendars reach over 60,000 families. People look forward to receiving them and often call to request extra copies. Your participation will be a mitzvah.

Because the images will be reprinted in the calendar that people hang prominently in their homes, we are hoping for beautiful, inspiring photos, and they must be high resolution. For horizontal photos, they should be approximately 3600 pixels wide by 2700 pixels high. For vertical photos, they should be approximately 2700 pixels wide by 3600 pixels high. If you have talented photography students or professional photographers within your congregation, it’s a great way to get them involved. We will of course provide photo credits for all images.

Please send submissions to Rivka Friedlander, Development Associate, at [email protected]. You may also reach Rivka directly at 646-519-9322.

Submissions are due by Friday, January 11, 2019.
