Yom Kippur 2022: A Call from High-Risk and Disabled Jews

Written by JTS Rabbinical student Jessica Belasco

After leading an intense Tisha b’Av experience focused on giving high-risk and disabled people a place to mourn the losses of the pandemic, I knew that I needed to help amplify those marginalized voices.

That’s why I’ve spent the past six weeks compiling a Yom Kippur covid speakout video featuring high-risk, disabled, and chronically ill Jews. As part of your practice during these Ten Days of Teshuva, I urge you to take five minutes to watch the video — and to share on social media and with your communities.

I have also compiled a website for a network that I’m calling the Jewish Covid Resilience Network (JCRN). The website includes an extensive Advanced Covid FAQ with a pastoral section, as well as concrete action steps to help make our communities more resilient to the challenge of covid.

If you’d like to be on the contact list for the JCRN, you can sign up here.

Once again, I hope that you will take a few minutes to watch the video, check out the website, and share with your community.

L’shanah tovah,

Jess
