Rick Tavan, USCJ Board Member, shares:

“Ann and I created a living trust to simplify our lives and the lives of our children as we each inevitably leave this world. Once we are both gone, it will allocate a percentage of our estate to our heirs and the remainder to charitable causes that are important to us. We list the charitable beneficiaries in a simple appendix that we can change from time to time by signature without legal assistance. USCJ has long been a vital driver for the future of Conservative/Masorti Judaism and has always been on that list.”

Dana Sharon Winer, USCJ Vice President, adds:

“I first included USCJ in my will in my 30s because it’s never too early to ensure that your will reflects your values. I learned from my mom (of blessed memory) that there is always important work to be done. While I strive to do as much as I can during my lifetime, a legacy gift is what helps that important work to continue after I’m gone, allowing future generations to connect Jewishly. As our tradition teaches, ‘You are not obliged to complete the work, but neither are you free to desist from it.”
