Community USY Advisor – Lower Mainland

Position Summary:

The Department of USY oversees all USY programming, communications, and strategy. The department manages all aspects of the planning and preparation of USY events that occur throughout the year, across North America. Members of the department are responsible for facilitating engagement with Jewish youth at regional, national, and virtual levels.

We are seeking a dynamic, enthusiastic, and organized individual to serve as our part-time Community USY Advisor, dedicated to fostering meaningful engagement opportunities for Jewish teens and youth in our community. This exciting role will involve working closely with teen boards at both Beth Tikvah and Beth Israel Synagogues, empowering them to create and implement monthly programs for their peers. Additionally, the Community Advisor will support execution of shul youth programs and support Lower Mainland wide USY programs. This position offers a unique opportunity to collaborate with synagogue leadership, teen leaders, and the broader Lower Mainland Jewish community to cultivate a vibrant and connected youth network.

Key Responsibilities:

Youth Programming (Grades 3-5, 6-8 & 8-12):

  • Implement and staff engaging programs for youth grades 3-5, 6-8 and 8-12 at local USCJ conservative synagogues.
  • Support Community Director, Youth Synagogue Professionals, coordinate logistics, including venue booking, activity planning, and communication with participants and parents.
  • Ensure programs are safe, inclusive, and foster a positive Jewish identity.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to the teen boards in planning, organizing, and executing monthly programs that are engaging, relevant, and aligned with USY and the synagogues’ values (programming includes social activities, Israel and religious based program, and Chesed projects).
    • Facilitate teen-led meetings, offering support in goal setting, task delegation, and problem-solving.
    • Foster leadership skills and empower teens to take ownership of their programming.
  • Facilitate effective communications with youth, families and synagogue professionals.

Community Program Support:

  • Collaborate with the Community Director for the Lower Mainland to support and staff community wide youth programs.
  • Staff minimum 2 regional shabbatons (with options for more).

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with the Community Director to align youth engagement efforts with broader community goals.
  • Maintain clear and consistent communication with teen board members, synagogue staff, parents, and program participants.
  • Prepare regular updates on program progress and outcomes.
  • Outreach and engagement: working with Synagogue Youth professionals, LM Community Director to create a plan to increase number of participants accessing USY programs.

Administrative Tasks:

  • In collaboration with the Community Director, Synagogue youth professionals manage program registrations, logistics and tracking participation.
  • Assist with marketing and promotion of youth programs.

Job Requirements:

  • 2 years of work experience in Jewish youth programming preferred
  • Must have access to reliable transportation. 
  • Must hold a valid Driver’s License and Passport.
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented with strong time management, analytical and organizational skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Location:

Administration job duties are remote, events primarily based at Beth Tikvah and Beth Israel Synagogues in the Lower Mainland, with occasional travel to regional events

Schedule: 

Part-time hours, 10 hours per week

Compensation Range

CA$25.00 – CA$30.00 per hour
