“Sadly, too many of our organizations fall into what my colleague Robert Leventhal calls “sustaining and surviving” mode. Sometimes, it is easier to remain passive about a program, committee or member of the professional or lay leadership rather than having a difficult conversation. However, most of the big things that synagogues are reluctant to change stem from an unwillingness to be honest, for fear of what others might think about someone rocking the boat, or what offended parties might say about them, in return.”
