Divisional Director, USY/Kadima - METNY Region

Position Purpose

The METNY Region of United Synagogue Youth (USY) seeks a part time Divisional Director to support teen engagement in the Sababa Division (New York City area). The Divisional Director will work with the Regional Teen Engagement Director (RTED) to deliver USY programs and high level engagement throughout Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens, with an aim at increasing the numbers of engaged Jewish teens and building relationships with synagogues. The Divisional Director will also have responsibilities supporting regional programming before and at each event.

Duties and Responsibilities

The duties of the Divisional Director include but are not limited to the following:

Community outreach within the Sababa Division (Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens)

  • Working with local synagogues and community centers to strengthen their youth program and USY involvement
  • Building relationships with synagogue clergy, staff, and lay leadership
  • Planning recruitment and engagement events, specifically targeting Manhattan and Brooklyn
  • Planning and running the annual Sababa Divisional Convention
  • Visiting teens at local high schools in partnership with JSU or independently
  • Recruitment for USY/Kadima in community Hebrew High School and Day Schools
  • Representing USY on local teen engagement committees (i.e. Federation, JCC, etc)
  • Organizing and supporting local USY/Kadima advisors and chapter directors

Support of Regional Activities

  • Assist RTED with planning and execution of regional conventions and events
  • Support recruitment efforts for International USY programs (summer experiences and International Convention)
  • Arrange and lead multi-chapter, citywide events on behalf of the region
  • Staffing Regional Conventions, encampments, day programs, etc
  • Staffing USY International Convention in December

Supervisory Responsibility

Supervise volunteer staff at all Sababa divisional events

Work Environment

This is a home office position and it is expected that the professional working from home will be utilizing office equipment in the home such as computer, phones, filing cabinets and other office equipment.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a part time position, of 20 hours/week. Evening hours and weekends are required. Flexible day/time hours, in order to fit all necessary meetings and responsibilities, are preferred.


Must be able to travel on regular basis to visit affiliated congregations in the Division. This includes evening and weekend responsibilities as determined and agreed upon by lay and professional supervisors

Required Education and Experience

  • Minimum – 3 years of college
  • Demonstrated knowledge of youth programming and Judaism
  • Experience in leading youth groups and programs in a non-profit organization or any equivalent
