November 13th - Shabbat Dinner

November 15th - Feeding the Hungry
We still need a few things so don’t hesitate to call or email me.  It is definitely a worthwhile cause. Many organizations participate and a hearty meal is served 365 days a week. The dining room is open to anyone who is hungry and there was a large number on Sunday.  Nancy Nelson and I will be getting the dates for next year.

TEMPLE EMANUEL FOOD PANTRY ALMOST READY TO OPEN

We are happy to announce that after a long and arduous process, and following Rabbi Mandell’s vision of becoming a more Holy Community, Temple Emanuel will be joining the Faith Community in Virginia Beach in serving those in need of emergency food. Many of our neighboring Churches and Community Action agencies have provided food and shelter to the less fortunate for many years. We are happy to be able to now join our neighbors in the Mitzvot of serving those needy families and individuals with emergency food from our own/on premises/ newly organized Food Pantry.

Starting in January, the Temple Emanuel Food Pantry will work in conjunction with the Virginia Beach Department of Human Service and others in the Community to help those in need. In addition to purchasing food from the Southeastern Virginia Food Bank (where we will soon be a “partner Agency”), and receiving donated food items from local supermarkets, we will be DEPENDING ON YOU, OUR CONGREGANTS AND FAMILY, TO HELP SUPPLY THE FOOD PANTRY. We are encouraging our Sunday School children to bring in a non-perishable food item every week for the Pantry, and of course ask YOU to bring in your donated foods as often and readily as you can. We will be including the students in the bagging and distribution, so that they will be able to participate “first hand” in giving back to the Community. We know that the economy is still bad, but that makes this “mitzvah” even more important. We need all types of non-perishable food. Consider three meals a day and what is needed for each meal. The enclosed list (which you can post on your refrigerator as a reminder!) includes only suggestions. Remember, buy and donate only what you think best. Just donate. (Monetary donations can be designated for the Food Pantry as well.) We thank you all for your support and are so pleased that our Temple Emanuel family as a “Holy Community” is now able to share and give back to our neighbors and the Community we live in and share.

Gift Shop
The Gift Shop is open during regular temple office hours (9:00 - 4:00) and on Sunday mornings during Sunday School.

Torah Class
The more that one is familiar with the annual cycle of Jewish holidays, Jewish laws and traditions, and Jewish values and teachings, the better she/he will be able to understand and appreciate our rich tradition.  Torah class is held each Thursday at 2:00 pm in the Social Hall.
