Congregation Rodfei Zedek
Stained Glass Windows

Designed by Adolfas Valeska

These windows, originally designed for the chapel of our former facility, are now combined to provide one of the focal points of the sanctuary. They were designed by stained glass artist Adolfas Valeska, with consultation by Rabbi Ralph Simon. The windows are a free-flowing collage of Judaism's sacred symbols and the ritual objects used in the year-round observance of Sabbath and festivals, and include (in Aramaic and English) the phrase "God, the Torah, and Israel are One". Instead of conventional stained glass and lead, they are constructed of heavy slab-glass and concrete. The surfaces are hand-chipped and chiselled, giving a vibrant quality and multiple color nuances to the design. In 1966 the windows earned Rodfei Zedek an Honor Award in Fine Arts from the Chicago Chapter, American Institute of Architects.

Also displayed in the sanctuary is a beautiful Agam window.
