Looking to the new millennium, Congregation Rodfei Zedek has joined with the Hyde Park Jewish Community Center in a unique and ambitious project. Our sanctuary and community hall, originally constructed at 5200 South Hyde Park Boulevard in 1950-55, have been demolished and a new multi-use facility has been erected in their place, to be used jointly by Rodfei Zedek and the JCC. The JCC is a partner with the synagogue in the $5.0 million project, having been granted a long-term loan by the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago. The new Rodfei Zedek building was designed by the architectural firm of Phillip Kupritz and Associates.
The objective of this project is to provide a modern, up-to-date
structure to fill the needs of our congregation into the 21st century, and
at the same time to provide needed space and facilities for the Hyde Park JCC. It represents a remarkable and unique pooling of
resources which may well serve as a model for the future of community
planning, and is an affirmation of the Hyde Park community of which we have so long been a part. A further result of this project has been the creation of a new Jewish "campus" in Hyde Park, including the Akiba-Schechter Jewish Day School who have purchased a portion of the synagogue property.
