In recent memory, no film has elicited so much criticism and review prior to its release, criticism which has not abated since its release.
Purporting to be an accurate portrayal, not of the life and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth, but rather concentrating on his torment prior to
his death, the film has found itself not only the target of Jewish groups and their allies who fear the film will lead to an increase in
anti-Semitism in a period of time when anti-Semitism is more rampant than at any time since the Holocaust, but also by Christians, theologians
and laymen alike, who criticize the way in which Gibson has included embellishments which are not supported by the purported source texts (to
wit, the four gospels) meanwhile ignoring certain obvious details which are readily available to anyone doing even a cursory examination of
the history of the events and times. Below and to the right are links to information, not only about the film, its attraction and words from its
detractors, but also for information about the background of the dispute.
