Rabbi's Message

Mogan David

HEBREW has three different terms that describe the function of a synagogue. As a Beit Tefillah, a synagogue is a place for prayer, the location for Jews to connect with G-d within a community, where we have the opportunity to join with others in our spiritual quest. At Temple Sinai we hold services every morning and evening throughout the year, so that Jews can gain the benefits of joining with the community to say Kaddish and to follow the prayer traditions of our heritage.

THE SYNAGOGUE is also Beit Knesset, a place for the Jewish community to gather. It is crucial, for the survival of our people, that we have a location where we can be together, to celebrate holidays and life cycle events, to plan for our future, to meet others who share our history and our values, and to bring our children together. In Mid-Orange County, that place is Temple Sinai, where we join for Hanukkah parties and community meetings, Sisterhood socials and Men's Club breakfasts, Bar/Bat Mitzvah parties, wedding receptions and youth group meetings. Our synagogue is the address for us as a people.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, the Synagogue is a Beit Midrash, a place to study our heritage. For over 3000 years our people have developed a wonderful, deeply spiritual way of life, with a literature full of wisdom and meaning. It is at and through the synagogue that we have the chance to share in that 3000 year old journey. At Temple Sinai learning Judaism is not just for the young, though we have a program for youngsters from pre-school through 12th grade. Through adult education courses in the fall and spring, and the monthly havurot that meet in homes, we, the Jewish community of Mid-Orange County have a chance to explore the beauty our traditions.
