STAFF AT BETH EL
Rabbi Daniel Satlow joined Congregation Beth El as its rabbi in 2004. Rabbi Satlow is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and the Jewish Theological Seminary. He came to Beth El after six years at Congregation Beth Shalom in Wilmington, Delaware where he was instrumental in building the membership to over 400 families and infusing new life and enthusiasm into the programs for young families and children. Rabbi Satlow is a gifted and enthusiastic teacher as evidenced in both Beth El's adult education program as well as the Beth El Religious School. |
Cantor Arthur Mayer has officiated at Congregation Beth El since 2001. An operatically trained baritone, he was a student of Metropolitan Opera Singers Alexander Kipnis and Morley Meredith as well as La Scala Basso Franco Ventriglia. While performing operas and concerts, Cantor Mayer also officiated as Holiday Cantor for synagogues in Potomac, Maryland, Rome, NY and Stratford, CT as well as synagogues in the greater New York Metro Area.
Cantor Mayer had studied Chazzanut at the Hechel Shlomo School of Chazzanut in Jerusalem with Cantors Naphtali Hershtik and Moshe Stern as well as coaching with composer Raymond Goldstein and Conductor Eli Jaffee in Jerusalem, Israel. In addition, he studied privately with Cantor Isaiah Grama and Cantor Noah Schall. While in Israel, Cantor Mayer performed with the Jerusalem Great Synagogue Choir, the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra and was soloist on Kol Yisrael Radio and Television for performances in tribute to Cantor Samuel Malavsky and others.
Cantor Mayer's approach to singing blends the many facets of Jewish music from classical chazzanut to more popular and modern melodies that invite congregational singing. A Fairfield native, Cantor Mayer resides in town with his wife, Marcela and children Daniela and Alex.
