ADULT PROGRAMS - SISTERHOOD

Tzedakah The Sisterhood at Beth El consists of an active group of women of all ages. The religious, spiritual and cultural life of Beth El is enhanced by the programs undertaken by Sisterhood. Fundraising projects enable us to contribute to the synagogue's annual budget and most often contain a Jewish element, whether it be the sending of mishloach manot for Purim, raising funds to feed the homeless, seeing a play with a Jewish theme, engaging a scholar or providing tuition for a student in the Talmud Torah.

Among its many activities, Sisterhood prepares and distributes calendars to all congregants, mails Hanukkah packages to college students, presents a gift to each new member as well as bar/bat mitzvah, coordinates the "New Eyes for the Needy" project, collects used cell phones for emergency distribution, operates the Gift Shop, prepares a Yom Kippur Break Fast for 450, is an active part of Women's League for Conservative Judaism with one of our members serving on the national board and two on the regional one. Our Sisterhood lends support to a sister synagogue in Israel, to Jewish servicemen and to the Jewish Theological Seminary.

Sisterhood also runs the Mitzvah Committee which is here for all members of our synagogue who need help during times of crisis, be it death, illness, or other significantly stressful times. In addition, we intend to recognize new members of the synagogue and other life events. Through the synagogue office, you can make donations to the Mitzvah Fund that will be recognized through the bulletin and acknowledgment cards.

Sisterhood has also made contributions to a variety of local, national, and inter-national organizations which bring relief to those in need and suffering. They include:
