New CD Celebrates "The Spirit of Shabbat: Voices of the Conservative Movement"

The United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism (USCJ), together with the Cantors Assembly, is unveiling a new CD featuring Shabbat music and prayers sung by members of the Cantors Assembly. The Spirit of Shabbat: Voices of the Conservative Movement is envisioned as the first in a series of music CDs to be produced through the collaboration of these two organizations.

The sixteen selections featured in the CD were chosen to reflect the diversity of Shabbat music from the Conservative Movement. Accompanying the music are the Hebrew texts, translations based upon the Sim Shalom prayer book, transliterations, as well as commentaries on the prayers and songs.

Rabbi Jerome Epstein, USCJ Executive Vice-President, points out that music enriches our experience of Shabbat. Besides enhancing our appreciation for Shabbat melodies, we expect that this CD will be used as an educational tool as well.

USCJ International President Judy Yudof notes that listening to this CD is a great way to get yourself in the mood for Shabbat as you return home on Friday afternoon or are setting your Shabbat table. It also makes a wonderful gift for married children, college students, and friends.

The Spirit of Shabbat: Voices of the Conservative Movement is available for a suggested minimum donation of $18. To order, call toll-free, 866-5-SHALOM. Proceeds will support programs that benefit Conservative Jews across North America.
