Sample Mission Statements

The following have been proposed by some of our affiliated Congregations as ideas for synagogue/congregational Mission Statements. Many of those who have been involved in the process of drafting such statements urge that congregations also craft an accompanying Vision Statement, explaining the values and vision of the institution.

Sample #1

Mission

It shall be the mission of Shaaray Torah Synagogue to meet the diverse spiritual, religious, educational, and social needs of its members within the framework of Conservative Judaism and to further the causes of the Jewish People and the State of Israel.

Goals

  • As a Bet T'fillah (House of Prayer), it is our goal to provide high quality, inspiring religious services and an egalitarian atmosphere in which every member may pray and meditate to their satisfaction.
  • As a Bet Midrash (House of Study), it is our goal to provide high quality educational experiences for every member of the Synagogue by participation in the religious school, study sessions of Talmud and Rashi as well as assisting our members to grow Jewishly and celebrate their Judaism.
  • As a Bet K'nesset (House of Assembly), it is our goal to encourage participation by all members to be warm, embracing, and caring. We wish to facilitate Jewish growth through our programs and activities and to provide an environment which encourages the development of an extended caring congregational family.

Sample #2

Mission

The Congregation seeks to:

  1. instill a lifelong love of Torah;
  2. transform the lives of its members through spiritual growth, observance, and mitzvot;
  3. create a kehillah, a Jewish village, which molds responsible citizens of the world.

The Congregation is committed to the principles and values of Conservative Judaism. The Congregation is dedicated to the study of Torah; to observance of the mitzvot; to the principle of Klal Yisrael which reaches out to all Jews; to the principle of tikun olam which seeks to make the world whole; and to support for Eretz Yisrael which is seen as the homeland of the Jewish people.

To achieve these goals the Congregation shall build and maintain a synagogue as a house of assembly, study, and prayer. The Congregation shall provide opportunities through religious services, educational meetings, cultural, social, and recreational activities for the Jews of the community.

Sample #3

The Orangetown Jewish Center is an egalitarian Conservative Jewish congregation serving the Jewish people of Rockland County and Northern New Jersey. We are a house of worship, assembly, and learning.

Through our services and programs, we promote high ethical, moral, and religious standards and respect for ourselves and others.

Sample #4

The mission of MJC is to be:

  • A house of prayer: aiding our members in a search for meaning in life, fulfilling the spiritual needs and longing of our Jewish community, providing a path that brings us closer to each other and to G-d;
  • A house of study: supporting and fostering a community dedicated to Jewish knowledge, learning and living;
  • A house of assembly: creating a welcoming home and sense of family for our members.
  • An integral part of the foundation of K'lal Yisroel, the Jewish people, supporting Israel and all good causes with support, both financial and otherwise.
