Rabbinic Placement (1995)

WHEREAS, THE UNITED SYNGAGOGUE OF CONSERVATIVE JUDAISM is a member of the Joint Placement Commission which controls Rabbinic placement procedures; and

WHEREAS, affiliated congregations have suggested ways in which these procedures might be changed in order to improve the process;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that THE UNITED SYNGAGOGUE OF CONSERVATIVE JUDAISM calls upon its representatives to the Joint Placement Commission to advocate for the following changes in the placement system.

  1. Remove all limitations on the number of congregations to which a rabbi may apply
  2. Provide congregations seeking rabbis with a list of all rabbis seeking pulpits, just as rabbis are provided with a list of congregations seeking rabbis.
  3. Create opportunities for congregations seeking rabbis searching for placement to meet.
  4. Form a sub-committee of the Commission to study the efficiency of the placement form currently in use.
