Rabbinic Placement (1995)
WHEREAS, THE UNITED SYNGAGOGUE OF CONSERVATIVE JUDAISM is a member of the Joint Placement Commission which controls Rabbinic placement procedures; and
WHEREAS, affiliated congregations have suggested ways in which these procedures might be changed in order to improve the process;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that THE UNITED SYNGAGOGUE OF CONSERVATIVE JUDAISM calls upon its representatives to the Joint Placement Commission to advocate for the following changes in the placement system.
- Remove all limitations on the number of congregations to which a rabbi may apply
- Provide congregations seeking rabbis with a list of all rabbis seeking pulpits, just as rabbis are provided with a list of congregations seeking rabbis.
- Create opportunities for congregations seeking rabbis searching for placement to meet.
- Form a sub-committee of the Commission to study the efficiency of the placement form currently in use.
