About the Department of Information Technology
The Department of Information Technology (IT) was created to bring the power of the personal computer to the synagogue. In addition to the host of internal Computer Operations the department provides, which assist our congregations indirectly, its two primary projects have proven most effective in providing direct service to the synagogue.
USCJ On-line Services Initiative
This sophisticated Internet web site and server includes pertinent organizational information which can be viewed, downloaded and/or exchanged between the Central Office (Rapaport House), Regional offices, and participating Synagogue/School offices. Additionally, the Department offers free web hosting on its server for affiliated synagogues and schools to create their own websites, including virtual domains (like www.yoursynagogue.org) and Microsoft FrontPage publishing capability.
Congregational Database Project
The Department continues to report on a detailed survey which was distributed to the synagogue leadership and the collected information has been input into a database of pertinent synagogue information that can be used to better serve the Conservative Movement. The PC in Your Synagogue
Has your synagogue realized the administrative and financial benefits a PC can offer? Are your synagogue officers finally ready to embark on the road to computerization but they don't know exactly where to begin? Is your synagogue considering upgrading its system but they aren't sure which synagogue management software package is the best for your congregation's needs? Learn how simple the road to computerizing Yahrtzeit, Membership and Budget/Financial Data can be. Not to mention High Holiday Seating, Cemetery Plot and Fund Raising Management as well. Try new Jewish clip art or access the Torah via CD-ROM. Do not miss the opportunity to prepare your congregation for the 21st century or at least get it into the 20th before the year 2000. All if takes is a commitment to getting the job done.
The Department can also offer guidance and act as a liaison to the congregational leadership and/or a computer consultant acting on behalf of the individual congregation in the area of purchasing hardware and software.
